Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and four other accused masterminds of the Sept. 11 attacks staged a silent protest at the long-awaited start of their trial at the U.S. facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. They refused to cooperate, listen to translations or even acknowledge U.S. military law, signaling a rocky start to the proceedings. The protest took place at their arraignment before a military judge.
