Knife crime rose by 7 per cent last year in England and Wales

Knife crime rose by 7 per cent last year, helping to drive offending in England and Wales to the highest level in 15 years.

Overall crimes recorded by police in England and Wales in the year to June topped 6 million for the first time since 2004, with robberies, firearms, vehicle theft offences and fraud all increasing, figures from the Office for National Statistics showed.
In the same period the number of offences resulting in someone being charged fell to a low of 7.4 per cent, with rape charges dropping to just 1.4 per cent.
