Russia and China Veto U.N. Security Council Resolution Condemning Syria

Russia and China on Saturday vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution on Saturday condemning the Syrian government’s crackdown on protests for the second time. At the meeting in Manhattan, 13 countries voted for the resolution proposed by European and Arab nations that gave strong support to an Arab League plan to end the crackdown and call for President Bashar al-Assad to step aside. But Russia and China both vetoed the measure. /New York Times
