Amanda Knox Freed by Italian Court

Amanda Knox, the American student convicted of taking part in a lurid 2007 murder in Italy, was cleared of most charges and freed by an appeals court on Monday, as was her codefendant Raffaele Sollecito.
The court in Perugia, Italy, upheld Ms. Knox’s conviction for defamation — falsely accusing another person in the case — and sentenced her to three years in prison, less the time she has already served. She was also ordered to pay court costs.
Her original sentence, handed down in 2009, was 26 years. /NEW YORK
