Presidentens ovanliga kondoleans

Usually, presidential statements of condolence are reserved for the deaths of foreign dignitaries. But on Tuesday, President Obama and his wife, Michelle, issued a statement expressing their condolence for the death of Ann Nixon Cooper. ---

Mrs. Cooper, 107, was the woman who Mr. Obama made famous last year during his election night speech in Chicago’s Grant Park. “She was born just a generation past slavery; a time when there were no cars on the road or planes in the sky, when someone like her couldn’t vote for two reasons—because she was a woman and because of the color of her skin,” Mr. Obama said./NY Times
