Årets nobelpris i litteratur
I've read some of his works and have to say II'm not a big fan. This genre, "earthy" Chinese novels, just doesn't appeal to me. There's an undeniable sameness to so many of them. Murakami was/is far more deserving for his body of work. I don't like all of his novels, but several are indisputable masterpieces.
Of course, politics plays an increasing role in all this. I don't know if the comment re the Chinese bailout of Saab is totally factual or not, and there's really some quid pro quo at work here, but clearly the Committee's selections, in this category at least, are not always based solely on literary merits.
Once again another writer who will be forgotten. Gone are the days when writers of substance, Camus, Sartre, Faulkner and Bellow, are chosen. Now within a year the prize winner is forgotten. And Philllip Roth? Deplorable. I couldn't even remember last year's winner, some obscure Sweedish poet, until he was mentioned in the article. Shame on you Nobel Committee.

Kissinger got the Nobel Peace Prize, but Gandhi didn't. My belief in the so-called biggest global prize ended right there

Mr. Guan Moyen's work has been translated into German, Swedish, and English.
We tend to forget that there's a whole world out there!

China recently bailed out the formerly Swedish Saab car mfr. After this award, look for sizable Chinese contracts to go to
Swedish companies. A slap in the face for the shrinking economic power of Japan, whose far better known author Murakami was the bookies' favorite to win in '12.
