Grammar Girl: Tips for Better Writing

"Advisor" or "Adviser"?

Janese from Maryland asks, "Can you help me figure out the difference between 'advisor' and 'adviser'?"
The short answer is that "advisor" and "adviser" mean the same thing and are interchangeable. The longer answer is that many sources prefer "adviser" with an "e," so it's probably better to use that form, but don't let anyone convince you that "advisor" is wrong.
