Police seek 8 weeks of custody for Norway killer

Norwegian police say they will ask a court to extend the pretrial detention of confessed mass killer Anders Behring Breivik by eight weeks, four of them in isolation.

The 32-year-old right-wing extremist will go before the Oslo District Court in a closed hearing Monday, his third court appearance since the bombing in downtown Oslo and shooting massacre at a youth camp on Utoya island. Seventy-seven people died in the attacks.
Police spokesman Roar Hansen told AP police will seek another eight weeks of pretrial detention as they prepare formal charges against Breivik.
The district court initially ordered an open hearing, but a higher court overruled that decision after police appealed it.
