Grammar Girl: Tips for Better Writing

Sort, Kind, and Type

When you're talking about categories of things, you can use the words "sort," "kind," and "type" interchangeably:
  • I don't like this sort of pie.
  • I don't like this kind of pie.
  • I don't like this type of pie.
When you use the word "these" with one of these words, you need to put an "s" on the end:
  • She always eats these kinds of meals.

"It Is I" Versus "It Is Me." How you should answer the question "Who's there?" depends on whether you follow traditional rules of common usage.
"Bachelor's Degree" or "Bachelors Degree"? You just got your degree, but how do you write it? One thing we can tell you right now is that it's not "batchelor's degree," which one HR person claims to see on resumes. Yikes!
