Bearable Lightness


No, that's not a wafer resting on top of that dandelion fluff. It's actually a piece of metal. In fact, it's the world's lightest material, developed by a team of researchers from the University of California at Irvine who published their findings in the journal "Science" on Nov. 18. One hundred times lighter than Styrofoam -- and 99.99 percent air -- the unprecedented compound can balance on the delicate flower without damaging it.
