60-års jobbileum

Sixty years ago, on May 9, 1950 French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed a new organization that would completely reshape relations between the nations of Europe. Countries that were still devastated by the second world war would now seek peace and prosperity together through trade and a joint commitment to democratic values and human rights.
The countries of the European Union now celebrate Schuman's bold vision each year on May 9, which has been designated "Europe Day". Unfortunately, Europe finds itself at the center of the world's attention this Europe Day not for its extraordinary success in securing peace and enhancing the standard of living in 27 nations, but for one of the most difficult crises that it has ever faced./"Week in Germany"
