Volcanic Vibrance


Lava and gas emissions spew out of an underwater volcano off the coast of Spain's Canary Islands on Oct. 17, causing the water to turn a bright shade of green. Since July, the smallest of the islands, El Hierro, has experienced roughly 10,000 earthquakes -- a sign of rising magma./DER SPIEGEL
