Dow surges more than 3 percent after Europe debt deal, upbeat report on U.S. economy

Stocks soared Thursday afternoon after European leaders agreed on a deal to slash Greece’s debt load and prevent the debt crisis there from engulfing larger countries like Italy. Stronger U.S. economic growth and corporate earnings also drove markets higher.
The Dow Jones industrial average shot up 372 points, or 3.14 percent, while the broader S&P 500 index rose 46 points, or 3.69 percent. The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained about 95 points, or 3.6 percent. /Washington Post
