No 10: Egypt must start change now

Feb 2 2011
Downing Street has called on the Egyptian government to embark "immediately" on President Hosni Mubarak's promised process of transition.

After Egyptian protesters reacted angrily to Mr Mubarak's offer to step down only later this year, US President Barack Obama insisted that the transition had to start right away.

And Prime Minister David Cameron's spokesman restated Britain's demand for a shift to a "broad-based government" offering "real, visible change".

He added: "Our view is that that process needs to begin immediately. We would look to the Egyptian government to set out a clear road map for change." The spokesman said that was "clearly what the Egyptian people are saying".
