Judge Blocks Key Sections of Arizona's Immigration Law A judge on Thursday blocked the most controversial sectionsof Arizona's new immigration law from taking effect, handinga major legal victory to opponents of the legislation. The law will still take effect Thursday, but without many ofthe provisions that angered opponents -- including sectionsthat required officers to check a person's immigration statuswhile enforcing other laws. The judge also put on hold a partof the law that required immigrants to carry their papers atall times, and made it illegal for undocumented workers tosolicit employment in public places. U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton put those sections on holduntil the courts resolve the issues. Opponents say the law will lead to racial profiling and istrumped by federal immigration law.
