Apropå inlägget i bloggen häromdagen: Thomas Ashcraft i USA är en radioamatör som intresserar sig för radioastronomi. ---"RADIO STORMS ON JUPITER: On April 11th, the loudspeaker of Thomas Ashcraft's 21 MHz radio telescope in New Mexico suddenly began to hiss and crackle. The sounds grew louder as Jupiter rose in the blue morning sky. "I am pleased to report," says Ashcraft, "a successful recording (x) of Jovian S-bursts--the first of 2009."---
(x) = man skall kunna lyssna på "radio stormen" men vid införandet av detta inlägg är det problem.----------------------------------------------------------
"Astronomers have long known that Jupiter produces strong shortwave radio bursts detectable from Earth; the fact of Jupiter's "radio activity" is not news. However, now may be the best time in decades to listen to the giant planet. The sun is in the pits of a century-level solar minimum. Low solar activity increases the transparency of Earth's atmosphere to shortwave radio waves, allowing signals from Jupiter to more easily and clearly reach the ground. At the same time, terrestrial radio interference subsides (another side-effect of solar minimum), so Jupiter bursts are easier to identify."--- Själv har jag sedan lång tid tillbaka en inspelning, det är alltså inte något nytt. Det intressanta är egentligen detta med solfläcksminimum, som kanske är på väg mot "rekordminimum" i år.
