Gösta Peterson, Barrier-Breaking Fashion Photographer, Dies at 94


Among Mr. Peterson’s most1960s
were the black model Naomi Sims
and the English sensation Twiggy.
Gösta Peterson, a self-taught photographer who made fashion history with his magazine covers of a once-spurned black model, Naomi Sims, and an androgynous British waif nicknamed Twiggy, died on Friday in Manhattan. He was 94.





Gösta Reinhold Peterson was born on April 25, 1923, in Orebro, Sweden, west of Stockholm. His father, Ernst, owned a delicatessen. His mother was the former Elsa Ljungdahl.
