Vijay Diwas is a ceremony to celebrate the liberation of Bangladesh by the Indian Armed Forces on Dec. 16, 1971. The Bangladesh Liberation War was a nine-month conflict pitting India and East Pakistan against West Pakistan (now Pakistan). The war resulted in the secession of East Pakistan, which became Bangladesh. /Der Spiegel
