LONDON - An effigy of President Robert Mugabe was hung outside the Zimbabwean embassy in London this morning. Zimbabwean exiles staged a demonstration in support of a planned anti-Mugabe protest in Harare.

The effigy of Mugabe was hanged from one of the maple trees outside the Embassy in protest at his decision to send Zimbabwean troops to support besieged Libyan President Gaddafi.

Organisers of Tuesday’s Harare protest, called the ‘Zimbabwe Million Citizen March’, seek to echo the Middle East protests and gather in Harare Gardens from 11 am but reports say that Zimbabwean security forces were out in full force and scuttled the demo before it could even begin.

The London demonstration is organised by the Zimbabwe Vigil which has been protesting outside the
Zimbabwe Embassy every Saturday since October 2002 in support of human rights in Zimbabwe.
