Closest outcome ever

Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were separated by fewer than 40 votes. Romney had 29,874 votes (24.5%) and Santorum had 29,908 votes (24.6%). It is the closest outcome ever since Iowa became an important first stop in the presidential nominating process four decades ago. The last time Iowa's results were this close was in 1996, when Bob Dole finished with 26%, followed by two other candidates with 23% and 18%. /USATODAY
