Rolando Saad

The driving force in Rolando Saad’s artistic and personal life is an enduring fascination for the guitar. After a performing career that spans three decades, his numerous international tours are still fuelled by a passion for communicating the rhythmic richness and beautiful sound of the Spanish guitar. An affinity for the classical Spanish repertoire was the major influence on Rolando Saad’s early career. Following his professional debut in Palma de Mallorca at the age of 19, he played solo recitals in over 40 countries and concentrated exclusively on works by Albéniz, Granados, Sor and Tárrega. But 1988 saw an important change of direction, when he played Joaquín Rodrigo’s “Fantasía para un gentilhombre” for the first time and, a year later, the composer’s celebrated “Concierto de Aranjuez”, two works which became central to his future artistic development. Invited to visit maestro Rodrigo at home in Madrid and receive his advice in person, on one occasion the young guitarist played the Fantasía to the composer; he was praised for his interpretation and subsequently honoured to be the soloist in the same work at a concert in the Teatro de Aranjuez, in 1988, which the composer attended. Since then, Rolando Saad has played regular orchestral concerts, bringing his interpretation of Rodrigo’s masterpieces to audiences across the world; with well over 800 performances to date (performances that made him appear in the “Concierto de Aranjuez” Wikipedia section) he has played the Concierto de Aranjuez in more concerts than any other soloist, frequently giving the first performance of the work at the venues he has visited. A distinguished career has taken the guitarist to major concert halls across Europe and America, including the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Vienna’s Musikverein, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, London Barbican Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, the Gasteig in Munich, Zurich’s Tonhalle, the Parco della Musica in Rome, the Teatro Real and Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Gran Teatre del Liceu and L’Auditori y Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Geneva’s Victoria Hall, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the RAI auditorium in Turin, the Coliseo daLisboa, the Casa da Musica of Oporto, the Konserthus in both Stockholm and Oslo, Copenhagen’s Tivoli Concert Hall, De Doelen in Rottedam, the Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Rudolfinum in Praga, Warsaw National Philharmonic, Philharmonic of Luxemourg, Auditorium in Milan and Giovanni Agnelli Auditorium in Turin, Monaco’s Rainier III Auditorium, the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, the Kursaal in San Sebastián, the Auditorio de Zaragoza, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico. ---(med mera). ---Rolando Saad är född i Cordoba , Argentina.
