SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, was a German ocean liner of the Norddeutscher Lloyd (NDL) shipping line. She is notable for a number of things, including being the first German ship to win the Blue Riband and the first passenger ship (although acting as an armed merchant cruiser at the time) sunk in World War I.

In 1900 the Marconi Wireless Corporation installed its first marine wireless station on the SS Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse and  On 7 of March 1900 she becomes the first ship to send wireless signals to shore.

The ship was named after William I, also known as Wilhelm I (full name: William Frederick Louis, German: Wilhelm Friedrich Ludwig) (22 March 1797 – 9 March 1888), of the House of Hohenzollern was the King of Prussia (2 January 1861 – 9 March 1888) and the first German Emperor (18 January 1871 – 9 March 1888)./Wikipedia
