Most popular baby names: Oscar and Maja

Maja was the most popular girl´s name and Oscar was the most popular boy´s name on newborns in Sweden last year.
The name Maja was given to 895 baby girls, or 1.6 percent of all the named girls, according to Statistics Sweden. It is the third time in the last five years that Maja tops the girls' list.
Among the boys did Oscar go from third to first place. The name has been on the top-ten top-list throughout the 2000s. A total of 1108 boys was last year named Oscar, which represents 1.9 per cent of named Swedish boys.
Three new names were also included among the boys' top-ten: Theo, Liam and Leo. They replaced Eric, Victor and Axel.
On the girls' top-ten list was names like Alice, Emma and Ella ousted, while Julia climbed from seventh to third place. A new name entered the top ten: Olivia.
Girl names that climbed the fastest in popularity last year was Tove, Minna and Novalie. Dropping fastest in popularity Kajsa, Emelie and Cornelia.
Among boys, the names Frank, Elvin and Milo are strong new challengers, while Carl, Marcus and Jonathan are falling in popularity.
Statistics Sweden also notes that today's Swedish parents more often choose an unique spelling of their childrens name. Among named newborns last year was there 4,092 girls and 3,775 boys who were named with an completely unique spelling.
