Argentina vs. Iran, 12 p.m.: Look for Argentina to iron out the kinks in its game — perhaps Lionel Messi improving his interactions with attackmate Sergio Agüero — because Iran does not figure to offer much in the way of competition. It barely hung on to a 0-0 draw with Nigeria in (so far) the most dreary game of the tournament.
Germany vs. Ghana, 3 p.m.: These teams have different levels of issues. Ghana’s ego-smashing loss to the United States has sparked rumblings of player discontent with their coach. It desperately needs to win or draw. Germany’s Thomas Müller, hat trick in hand after the rout of Portugal, wonders how many goals he has to score to win the Golden Boot. Of course, his detractors will nominate him for an Academy Award, too, after his histrionics helped draw a Portugal red card.
Nigeria vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina, 6 p.m.: Zero-zero draw alert. Nigeria could not crack Iran and Vedad Ibisevic of Bosnia scored against Argentina only becacuse of a major goalkeeper gaffe. The winner, if there is one, will move into pole position for the second qualifying spot in the group.
