'Celine Dion' effect can fuel patriotism: Poll


"---Association for Canadian Studies executive director Jack Jedwab said the powerful impact of seeing Canadian stars succeed internationally — particularly among French-speaking respondents — is an indication that what he called "the Celine Dion phenomenon" is a genuinely significant factor in maintaining citizens' national pride, and perhaps even national unity.

He said the finding about international validation for Canadian talent is also in keeping with earlier polls suggesting that Quebecers in particular "feel more Canadian when they're outside of Canada than when they're in it.---"
