Toyota uses 'Short Wave' signals in cars

A Toyota news release says they are using 'Short Wave' signals to link vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure radio communications over a wide area to create potential collision warnings.

What exactly Toyota mean by 'Short Wave' is not clear from the news release.
